Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has reported that 252 women and girls were subjected to violence across Bangladesh in August, based on media monitoring. This means an average of eight women and girls faced violence every day during the month. Among the victims, 55 were killed and 54 were raped. Of the rape victims, 36 were girl children, highlighting a disturbing trend of violence against minors.

The data was compiled by the Central Legal Aid Sub-committee of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, based on reports published in 15 national dailies and two online news outlets. The organisation released the findings in a press statement issued on Tuesday, as part of its regular practice of monitoring and documenting incidents of violence against women and children reported in the media.

The statistics underscore the persistent scale of gender-based violence in the country and Bangladesh Mahila Parishad's continued role in tracking such incidents through systematic media review. The organisation has long used such monthly compilations to draw public and policy attention to the safety and protection of women and girls in Bangladesh.
