To mark the self-immolation (martyrdom) anniversary of anti-British revolutionary Pritilata Waddedar, theatre group Dhaka Padatik organized a special event featuring the play 'Trial of Surya Sen', a musical performance, and an exhibition of children's drawings. The program was held on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, at 6:30 pm at the Dr. Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity on Bailey Road, Dhaka, in collaboration with Itihash O Oitijjho Parishad and cultural school Tapoban. The evening opened with awakening group songs performed by Tapoban artists, followed by an exhibition at the auditorium entrance showcasing drawings by students from various Dhaka schools depicting Pritilata Waddedar, the Chittagong youth uprising, and the Jalalabad Hill and Dhalghat battles, along with portraits of martyred revolutionaries and documentary footage from past stagings of the play. After welcome remarks from guests, the special performance of the play began, free and open to all without tickets. This was Dhaka Padatik's 38th production and the 47th staging of 'Trial of Surya Sen', which dramatizes the mock trial and execution of revolutionary leader Master-da Surya Sen. Written and originally directed by Ekushey Padak-winning theatre personality Masum Aziz, the play is now redirected by actor-director Nader Chowdhury, who also plays Surya Sen. Featuring around 40 characters including Kalpana Dutta, Tarakeswar Dastidar, Pritilata Waddedar, Ambika Chakraborty and Nirmal Sen, the play debuted in January 2018 and has since been staged multiple times domestically and internationally, including two shows in Delhi, India.
