Bangladesh Mahila Parishad's Dhaka Metropolitan branch held its 14th conference on Saturday at Muktijuddho Sriti Milanayatan in Kakrail, Dhaka, under the slogan 'We Want a Violence-Free Dhaka Metropolis for Women and Girls.' Speaking as special guest, BMP central committee general secretary Maleka Banu said society is still not fully prepared to let women live independently, noting that political crises have often turned into social crises requiring united action. She also expressed concern over new forms of violence against women, particularly cyber violence, urging preparedness to counter it and calling for broadening the women's movement to establish equality between men and women.

Chief guest Runa Akter, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate at the Dhaka District Commissioner's office, said that despite various narratives created to hold women back, they have played vital roles in social, political and economic spheres since 1971, including now serving in key posts such as Dhaka's DC and Metropolitan Police Commissioner. BMP central committee president Fowzia Moslem noted the organization has worked for nearly 56 years towards women's equality, citing the influence of UN human rights frameworks, CEDAW, and the SDGs. Dhaka Metropolitan general secretary Rehana Younus outlined ongoing programs against violence towards women and children, while vice-president Momena Shahnur urged families not to discriminate against daughters. The conference announced a new 35-member committee with Rehana Younus as president and Kaniz Fatema Togor as general secretary.
