Theatre group Dhaka Padatik organized a special cultural program on 22 September 2026 to mark the self-sacrifice anniversary of anti-British revolutionary Pritilata Waddedar of Chattogram. The event, held at the Dr. Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity on Bailey Road in Dhaka, was open to the general public and began at 6:30 pm. Organized in collaboration with 'Itihash O Oitijjho Parishad' and the cultural school 'Tapobon', the program featured an inspirational group song performance by Tapobon, along with an exhibition of paintings by students depicting Pritilata Waddedar, the Chattogram youth uprising, the Jalalabad hill battle, and the Dhalghat skirmish, alongside images of martyred revolutionaries. Following tributes and brief welcome speeches, the 47th show of Dhaka Padatik's 38th production, 'Trial of Surya Sen', was staged. The play, centered on the mock trial and tragic history of Master Da Surya Sen, was originally written and directed by the late Ekushey Padak-winning theatre personality Masum Aziz, and is now newly directed with actor Nader Chowdhury playing the lead role of Surya Sen. The production, featuring around 40 characters and cast members including Mahbuba Haque Kumkum, Manjurul Islam Nantu, and Sabiha Zaman, has been widely acclaimed at home and abroad since its 2018 premiere for educating younger generations about the true history of the anti-British struggle.
