Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has reported that 252 women and girls were subjected to various forms of violence across Bangladesh in August, averaging eight victims per day. The data, compiled by the organization's Central Legal Aid Sub-Committee based on reports from 15 national dailies and two online news outlets, showed that of the 252 victims, 118 were girl children and 134 were women.

According to the findings, 55 people were murdered during the month, including 10 girls and 45 women. Rape claimed 54 victims, of whom 36 were girl children and 18 were women; 13 of these cases involved gang rape, including eight girls, and two victims—including one girl—were killed after being raped. Additionally, 14 people, mostly girls (11), survived attempted rape.

The report also documented 30 cases of sexual violence, including 24 girls, comprising 14 cases of sexual harassment and nine of stalking/eve-teasing. Seven people, including four girls, were victims of cyber violence. Other forms of violence recorded included attempted murder, burning, suicide, domestic worker abuse, domestic violence, child marriage, and abduction.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad said the statistics, drawn solely from media reports, underscore serious concerns about the safety of women and girls in the country and highlight the urgent need for stronger protective measures.
